Why it Matters
Climate change is the fastest growing threat to heritage sites and cultural practices worldwide, yet many are unable to take needed action—there’s already so much to do, it’s hard to know where to start, and it often feels like you’re the only one thinking about it. You’re not alone! There are thousands of people like you around the world, so we started this pledge to unite us, and community to support us. We adapt better when we work together!

3000 by 2030
In the face of climate change, we need heritage now more than ever. Heritage is not just a victim of its impacts—it is part of the solution, both as a source of community resilience and a well of generational wisdom relevant today.
This is now being recognized at the highest levels of global climate action, with heritage's inclusion in the UN's Global Goal on Adaptation and Heritage Adapts! being recognized as a "Plan to Accelerate Solutions." When you join Heritage Adapts! your action not only counts for your community, it counts globally.
Sites & Practices Taking Action
How it Works
Every heritage steward is invited to make the pledge to take locally led climate adaptation action for their heritage site or cultural practice by 2030—and to join the community to support one another through the process to actually do it! Whether natural and cultural places, objects and collections, intangible cultural heritage and practices, and beyond, Heritage Adapts! is for you. Even if you don't represent a site or practice, you are valued here too.
We adapt better together!
The Action Journey
After taking the pledge, answer a few questions to join your recommended stage on this guided roadmap for locally led adpatation. Developed with stewards in the field, it is grounded in an approach that centers inclusion and weaves together scientific, Indigenous, and local knowledge.
