Why it Matters
Climate change is the fastest growing threat to heritage sites and cultural practices worldwide, yet few have taken action to adapt. We get it, adaptation can be overwhelming—there’s already so much to do, it’s hard to know where to start, and it often feels like you’re the only one thinking about it. You’re not alone! There are thousands of people like you around the world, which is why we started this community of action. We adapt better when we have a roadmap and work together!
3000 by 2030
2030 is a critical year for climate action. It's when global greenhouse gas emissions need to drop significantly to avoid the most catastrophic consequences of climate change. It's also the year we need to ramp up adaptation efforts, in line with global climate goals (specifically under the Global Goal on Adaptation of the UFCCC). For the first time, heritage is explicitly included in this global policy as one of seven thematic targets. So, we're rallying together to commit 3000 heritage places and practices to taking adaptation action by 2030! Other areas have their campaigns, its time for heritage to have ours! Will you join us?

How it Works
The Heriage Adapts! Action Journey has been created to help Stewards succeed in fulfilling their Heritage Adapts! Pledge. From enhancing your skills and accessing data, to engaging your community and taking action, this guided action journey builds on resources contributed by the Campaign's Partners to provide a roadmap for locally-led adaptation, connection with peers around the world, and free resources to make adaptation actionable and social.
Stage A: Enhance your Climate & Heritage Literacy
Learn & Organize: Build knowledge and momentum by enhancing your understanding of climate science, learning how it intersects with heritage, and organizing your community for action. Icons
Stage B: Complete a Community-Led Risk Assessment & Make an Adaptation Plan
Assess & Design: Engage your community and use downscaled climate models from our data hub to conduct a climate risk assessment and co-design adaptation strategies that are not only technically sound, but culturally meaningful and community-driven.
Stage C: Take an Adaptation Action, Monitor & Evaluate
Implement & Inspire: Put your strategy into practice—whether new site interventions, updated management policies, or community-led campaigns---and then monitor progress, adapt as needed, and share your story. Icons
