Getting started

What is the Heritage Adapts! platform? 

The Heritage Adapts! platform is your hub for taking climate adaptation action for your heritage site or cultural practice. It combines a personalized dashboard with a community space hosted on Circle, where you'll find courses, discussion boards, events, and resources to guide you through the action journey.

How do I create an account? 

Visit the Join page and select the path that's right for you — Steward (for those pledging to adapt a heritage site or cultural practice), Contributor (for individuals who want to access community resources but do not represent a site or practice to adapt), or Partner (for organizations supporting the mission). You'll complete a short intake form, and your account will be created automatically.

I just signed up. What do I do first?

After signing up, you'll be taken to a recommendation page based on your intake responses, then redirected to your dashboard. On your first visit, a popup will ask you to join the Circle community—this is required to access courses, discussion boards, and events. Use the same email you signed up with.

Your Dashboard

What is the dashboard? 

Your dashboard is your home base. It shows your current stage in the action journey, tracks your progress through action items, gives you quick access to Circle courses and community features, and lets you advance to the next stage when you're ready.

Why does my dashboard say "Stage A" (or B, or C)? 

The Heritage Adapts! action journey is organized into three stages. Stage A focuses on Climate & Heritage Literacy, Stage B on Risk Assessment & Adaptation Planning, and Stage C on Implementation & Monitoring. Your dashboard reflects which stage you're currently working through.

What are the checkboxes on my dashboard? 

These are your stage action items — the key tasks to complete during each stage. Checking them off updates your progress bar and saves automatically. You can check and uncheck them at any time. When all actions are complete, the "Ready to Advance?" button will change to indicate you're ready for the next stage.

How do I advance to the next stage? 

Click the "Ready to Advance?" button on your dashboard at any time. You'll see a short form asking if you've completed the stage actions, with an option to upload any outputs you'd like to share. After confirming, click "Start Stage B" (or C) — your plan will be updated, you'll be added to the next Circle space group, and you'll be redirected to your new dashboard.

Can I still access materials from previous stages? 

Yes. When you advance to a new stage, all courses and materials from previous stages remain accessible under the Courses section on Circle.

I'm a Contributor / Leadership Partner. Why does my dashboard look different?

Contributors and Leadership Partners have dashboards tailored to their roles. Contributors have access to community resources, courses, and discussion boards without the staged action journey. Leadership Partners have a dedicated dashboard for their organizational involvement.

Community

What is Circle? 

Circle is the backend platform that powers our community. This is where you'll find courses and guided learning content for each stage, discussion boards to connect with other stewards and partners, events (both online and in-person), and a member directory to find others in the climate heritage space. It's built in to your dashboard.

Why do I need to create a Circle account separately? 

Your Heritage Adapts! dashboard account (powered by Memberstack) and your Circle community account are on separate platforms. We use your same email to link them. The first time you visit your dashboard, you'll be prompted to join Circle — this only happens once.

I already have a Circle account. Do I need to make a new one? 

No. If you already have an account on Circle with the same email, clicking the Circle invite link will simply add you to the correct space group for your stage. You won't need to create a new account.

How do I get back to the community from my dashboard? 

Click the "Go to Community →" button on your dashboard, or use the navigation links at the top of the page (Feed, Courses, Events, Members).

Account & Settings

How do I update my profile? 

Go to your dashboard and click "Settings" to access your Account Settings page. From there you can update your name, organization, heritage site or cultural practice, dashboard header photo, email address, and password.

Can I change my email address? 

Yes. On the Account Settings page, scroll to the email section, enter your new email, and click save. Make sure to update your Circle account email separately if you want them to match.

I forgot my password. How do I reset it? 

On the login page, click "Forgot password?" and enter your email. You'll receive a reset link. If you don't see the email, check your spam folder.

What account type do I have? 

Your Account Settings page shows your current account type (Stage A, Stage B, Stage C, Contributor, or Leadership Partner) with a green tag near the top. Hover over the info icon next to it for more details about what this means.

Troubleshooting

The dashboard page just says "Loading your dashboard..." and nothing happens. 

This usually means the system is trying to determine your account type. Try refreshing the page. If it persists, make sure you're logged in — click "Log In" in the navigation and sign in with your credentials.

I can't click anything on my dashboard / the page seems frozen.

Try refreshing the page. If it continues, clear your browser cache or try a different browser.

My checkboxes aren't saving, what do I do?

Checkbox progress saves automatically to your account when you click them. If they're not persisting between visits, try a hard refresh (Cmd+Shift+R on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows). If the issue continues, contact us.

I clicked "Join the Community" but nothing happened. 

The Circle invite link opens in a new tab. Check if your browser blocked a popup. If so, allow popups for act.heritageadapts.org and try again.

I advanced to the next stage but I'm still seeing my old dashboard. 

After advancing, the page should redirect automatically. If it doesn't, go to act.heritageadapts.org/dashboard and you'll be routed to the correct dashboard for your updated plan.

The advance button says "Switching plans..." but nothing happens. 

This can occur if there's a temporary connection issue with the account system. Wait a moment and try again. If the problem persists, contact us and we can manually update your stage.
